Vendor of the week: The TARDIS-like craft shop in North Wales

FROM postage stamps and envelopes to a beehive of craft activities, the old post office building in Dolgarrog, Conwy Valley, looks very different these days.

A little over two years ago, Sharon Adams and Clive Jones opened the “Hub Dolgarrog” on the premises – which they say has grown into their own little “TARDIS”.

The shop is on the main road through Dolgarrog, opposite Adventure Park and the Hilton Garden Inn Snowdonia and is open 7 days a week (including Bank Holidays) from 11am to 3pm.

Whether you are looking for cushions or cakes, jams or jewellery, there is something for everyone at Sharon and Clive’s shop.

Sharon said: “The store is a ‘TARDIS’ of rooms and stalls used by over 35 local artisans.

“If you are looking for gifts or want to treat yourself, you will find handmade greeting cards, pillows, decoupage, felted, acrylic and wooden turned parts, as well as cakes, jams, chutneys, as well as crocheted, knitted and sewn clothes and toys.

“There is also a wide range of jewellery, also all handmade by locals.

“At the back of the store there is a large section selling vintage furniture and household items. If you are looking for an ornament for your garden, we have it too.

“The shop is staffed by the artisans themselves who can help you with any questions you may have about the goods on offer or get in touch with specific artisans if you have a specific request.

“You can find everything you need under one roof and everything is very cheap.”

In a way, however, Sharon and Clive are making up for lost time – Hub Dolgarrog opened just prior to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020.

When Clive, who oversees the store’s operations, was forced to close, he took the opportunity to give the website a fresh new look, much to Sharon’s delight.

Sharon added: “The store was set up just before COVID hit and wasn’t open long before going into lockdown.

“During this time Clive took the opportunity to redesign the interior of the building, decorate it and move the rooms for the reopening in February 2022.

“It’s much more welcoming now and very well laid out.”
