“Being young now and being young whenever — I can only speak for my generation — means being judged intensely,” Chalamet said at a news conference Sept. 2 per diversity. “I can’t imagine what it means to grow up on the onslaught of social media, and it was a relief to play characters wrestling with an internal dilemma without the ability to go to Reddit, Twitter, Instagram, or TikTok and figure out where they fit in.”

“I don’t judge. You can find your tribe there,” he continued. “I think it’s hard to be alive now. I think societal collapse is in the air. So hopefully this film will be important.”
