SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio — The town’s summertime fun begins June 10 with an INTERSECTION event featuring food, drink, music and games.
This first party of the summer – one of several events planned in South Euclid in June, July and August – will take place on June 10 from 5pm to 8pm at the community grounds 4477 Rushton Road, behind McDonald’s (4500 Mayfield Rd). Intersection features food and beverages available at The Four Bistro, Afrika Taste and Lounge and TropicalSno CLE stores in downtown South Euclid.
Attendees can also enjoy a beer garden, huge games (like Jenga and Connect 4), and Flashback’s music, which will play hits from the 1970s to the present day.
“We invite everyone to join us in ringing in summer in the Mayfield-Green District on June 10,” said Annette Iwamoto, executive director of the organization that represents INTERSECTION, the nonprofit community development corporation A southern Euclid. “We have a thriving and vibrant community, and INTERSECTION is a chance for our residents and visitors to experience that.”
INTERSECTION will also have a first look at a large quilt, a project by Cleveland Institute of Art student Caro Volny. Volny has partnered with One South Euclid for an internship program that saw several South Euclid residents attend crochet workshops and techniques for creating different granny square patterns. Volny assembled these squares into a giant quilt.
While INTERSECTION is scheduled to end at 8pm, the fun doesn’t stop there. There will be an afterparty immediately afterwards at the Afrika Taste and Lounge, 4483 Mayfield Road. The after party will include a karaoke contest where the best singer will win a $500 prize.
Free INTERSECTION parking is available in part of the Rushton Road community car park (entrance on Dean Drive). There will also be on street parking off Rushton Road.
The idea for INTERSECTION was conceived and first presented in 2019 as a means of showcasing the Mayfield-Green District. Five INTERSECTION events were held in 2019 which were then promoted as a way for people to gather after work in downtown South Euclid. Due to the pandemic, the INTERSECTION did not take place in 2020. In 2021, only one redesigned INTERSECTION event took place in September.
This year’s lonely INTERSECTION party is designed to serve as an all-ages community event, inviting residents to join in the summer fun in South Euclid. To that end, One South Euclid has developed a pass program that encourages residents and visitors to explore all of the city’s summertime activities.
Guests can obtain a passport and stamp at the One South Euclid table at INTERSECTION. Then, when you take part in South Euclid’s summer activities, residents can get their passports stamped. Those who get a stamp from each activity have a chance to win $1,000. For more information on the passport, see here.
South Euclid’s other planned summer activities include three outdoor concerts at Notre Dame College (the first show of the Ray Rhode Concert Series is June 5th at 7pm with The Pop Tarts); the June 16 Freedom Celebration on June 19 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Garfield Memorial Church, 1534 S. Green Road; and the Urban Street Party, Rock the Block, August 19 and 20, centered at St. John Lutheran Church, 4386 Mayfield Road.
