There is no place like home. Most people who move away from their home country for a job or other personal occupation will likely agree that at times they experience an excruciating nostalgia for the little things like the people, the food, or even the style. Hollywood stars are not immune to this feeling either, as Rihanna proves. While promoting her latest Fenty Skin product, Rihanna wore a bespoke crochet dress from Instagram user @ shasweets23 in Barbados. Rihanna, if you don’t remember, was born in Saint Michael, Barbados, and she always shows her pride in her homeland on social media.

The lacy craftcore look was paired with square mesh pumps from Bottega Veneta (the brand has been a celebrity favorite lately, as evidenced by the outfits by Sophie Turner and Hailey Bieber). Colorful bangles and rings completed Rihanna’s warm weather outfit. The star’s Instagram photo currently has over 7.9 million likes and with numbers like this, the dress designer herself couldn’t resist sharing the picture again on her personal gram. In a separate post @ shasweets23 wrote: “Crochet dress made by me # crochet #handmade #personalize #improud #ririrockedit.” Rihanna replied in a comment and wrote: “Thank you, sister! Love it!!! 💪🏿 Bajan Massif 🇧🇧. “

The singer is right on trend with her crochet dress, because this handmade look is available this summer in the form of tops, swimsuits, bags and more. Rihanna’s dress arguably took the look to the next level when she mixed her bespoke piece with trendy shoes from a luxury fashion house. Crocheting has also been spotted among celebrities and women of fashion like Ella Emhoff and Bella Hadid. In fact, Emhoff recently launched a knitwear collection with designer Batsheva Hay that included items such as a crochet bag and tops. Additionally, celebs who have worn other take on the DIY-inspired aesthetic include Dua Lipa in her hand-painted pants, Emily Ratajkowski in her doodle jeans, and Emma Roberts in her patchwork jacket.

As with most custom-made items, the exact look of RiRi is not readily available online. However, you can make your own with a DIY crochet kit, or settle for one of the dress alternatives below.
