Summer Reading Program: June 1st – July 30th for all ages. Adventure is just a book away. Stop by the information desk to participate in the summer reading program and take home a reading log. After six hours of reading or listening, you will receive a prize. Read on for more chances to win. Check out the weekly trivia question for another chance at a prize.

Silent Book Club: Thursdays, 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. A book club with a difference. Come into the library’s Carnegie Quiet Reading Room and settle into one of our cozy armchairs. Read quietly with other book lovers in quiet companionship. Follow Planos Silent Book Club on Facebook. No registration required.

Knitting and Crochet Group: Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. via Zoom. This informal group works on their own projects, discussing yarn types and colors, and helping each other with new or tricky patterns. No registration required. Painting with Petite Palette: Monday, June 20, 6:00pm – 8:00pm Michelle Shepard leads the class in creating an acrylic on canvas painting Lost in Paradise. Open to high school students and adults. There is a $15 fee for each class that must be paid at the time of registration. Call 630-552-2030 to register.

Author group: Thursday, June 23, 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in person or via Zoom. Join other writers to discuss your work. Open to adults and high school students. No registration required. Technology Helpdesk: Saturday, June 25, 11 a.m. to 13.00 Free opportunity to meet with tech expert Robert Mitilieri. He helps with questions about computers, cell phones, tablets or e-readers. Bring your device for the best experience. No registration required.

Craft To Go Kits: Available Friday, July 1, 10:00 a.m. The July Craft Kit includes components to make your own acrylic 4th of July themed bookmarks. Available for adults and high school students, first come, first served while supplies last.

Free movie: Tuesday, July 5, 6 p.m. to 8:05 p.m. Cyrano (2021). Rated PG-13. Open to all ages. refreshments served.

Card Making Course: Thursday, July 7, 6:30-8pm Jennifer Boring shows you how to use simple techniques and embellishments to create five handmade cards that will enhance your finished project. All supplies provided including envelopes. Open to high school students, adults and students aged 10 and over accompanied by an adult. There is a $5 fee for each class, payable at the time of registration. Call 630-552-2030 to register.

New life for old bags: Saturday, July 9, 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Help turn plastic grocery bags into sleeping mats for the homeless. For more information, contact Ceil Carey at [email protected] or 708-846-1704. No registration required. Meet in the lower level meeting room.

rhyme time: Wednesdays, June 22, 29, July 6 and 13, 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. or 6 to 6:30 p.m., in person. For babies up to 3 years old. This lap-sitting story features action rhymes, finger plays, songs, movement activities, a simple story, and parent-child reading time. Active adult participation is an integral part of this program. Bring a blanket for your family to sit on. For babies up to 3 years accompanied by an adult. Call 630-552-2025 or visit the Children’s Library to register.

Preschool Stories: Mondays, June 20, July 27 and July 11, 10.30 a.m. to 11.10 a.m. For self-employed 3 to 6 year olds without an accompanying person. Contains simple stories, music, movement activities and a simple craft. Parents must remain in the children’s library during the program. Registration required. Preschool Science Adventures: Tuesday, June 21, 2 to 2:45 p.m. or 6 to 6:45 p.m. For children aged 2 to 6 accompanied by an adult. Come to the library for some messy science fun. Scientific summer fun: Monday 27 June 2:00pm – 2:45pm or 6:00pm – 6:45pm For independent students entering Grades 1-6. Explore the science of heat with us. Sounds funny: Thursday, June 30, 2:00 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. Explore letter sounds and handwriting skills in a fun, interactive and multi-sensory way. We have a variety of phonics stations for exploring at your own pace. We focus on different letter sounds each month. Targeted for children 3-6, with one adult. Registration is required.
