Kimberly Ann Laidlaw
March 12, 1960 – March 21, 2022
Atwater, California – Kimberly Ann Laidlaw passed away peacefully on March 21, 2022 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 12, 1960 in Livingston, California to Roy and Darlene Harding, who preceded her in death.
A 1978 graduate of Mt. Whitney High School, Kim soon began working for Farmers Insurance and later became an underwriter. She continued to work there for over 20 years before joining the Merced County Human Services Agency. She worked there until her cancer diagnosis in August.
Kim loved to crochet. She was always finding new patterns to try to create unique gifts for her friends and family. Although she loved crocheting, nothing came close to the love she had for her family. Her daughters were her world, her sisters were some of her favorite people, and there are no words to describe how much she loved her grandchildren. She loved everyone unconditionally, always put others first and had the biggest heart of gold. She was a selfless, sarcastic, quick-witted woman with the best sense of humor.
In August 2021, Kim was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer that had metastasized to her brain. While most would be devastated if they received such a diagnosis, she faced the question head on and decided to fight or spend more time with her family. She fought this terrible disease bravely and with such grace – not once did we hear her lament. Even on her worst days, she made them seem like they weren’t that bad. She fought hard and one can only hope to be half as brave as she is.
Kim is survived by her four daughters, Andrea Anderson (Chris), Kristina Cook (BJ), Brie Frith (Jay) and Chelsea Munden (Shane). Her 11 grandchildren affectionately called her Grandma Shampoo and Mema. She is also survived by three sisters, Debbi Baldridge, Kathy Terracciano and Shelia Marlowe, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. We will all miss her terribly.
Our family would like Dr. Boreta of UCSF Radiation Oncology and Dr. Thank Sidhu of Mercy UC Davis Cancer Center. Thank you for all your hard work to give Kim more time to spend with her family. We appreciate it very much.
A viewing will be held at the Wilson Family Funeral Chapel on Thursday, March 31 from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. A service will also be held at the Wilson Family Funeral Chapel on Friday, April 1 at 10 am.
