Peter Dinkel is disappointed by Disney’s decision to do a remake Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.

the Cyrano The 52-year-old actor berated Disney for “hypocrisy” while appearing on Marc Maron WTF podcast Monday. Dinklage – who was born with a form of dwarfism called achondroplasia – has been critical of the decision to remake snow white today, citing the “backward story” of the fairy tale.

“There’s a lot of hypocrisy going on,” Dinklage told Maron, 58, explaining that he’s “someone who’s a little bit unique” and has “a front-row seat” for cases like this. When Maron asked him to give an example, Dinklage brought up Disney’s planned remake of the princess story, which was first announced last year.

“This literally doesn’t offend anyone, but I was a little surprised — they took great pride in casting a Latina actress as Snow White,” Dinklage said. “But you still tell the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Take a step back and look at what you’re doing. It doesn’t make any sense to me.”

Dinklage meant Rachel Zegler, who previously starred as Maria in Westside Story and was pour as Snow White last June.

the game of Thrones Star added, “You’re progressive in a way, but then you’re still doing this damn thing about seven dwarves living in a cave together, what the fuck are you doing man? Have I done nothing to advance the matter? from my soapbox? I don’t think I’m loud enough.”

“I don’t know which studio this is, but they were so proud of it. All love and respect to the actress and to the people who thought they were doing the right thing,” said Dinklage. “But I’m just wondering, what are you doing?”

He later clarified his stance, saying to Maron, “If you tell the story of snow white and it’s the craziest, coolest, progressive spin on it, let’s do it. Everything in it.”

Disney addressed Dinklage’s criticism in a statement shared with The Hollywood Reporter Tuesday. A spokesperson told the outlet, “In order not to reinforce stereotypes from the original animated film, we’re taking a different approach with these seven characters and have consulted with members of the dwarf community.”

They added, “We look forward to sharing more as the film enters production after a long period of development.”

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney’s snow white Remake will have culture advisors and is still in development; It is not expected to be in theaters for several years.

Dinklage, known for his roles in game of Thrones and The station agentAmong other things, he promised himself at the beginning of his career that he would never play elves or goblins, The New York Times previously reported.

Dinklage recently spoke about living with achondroplasia and how fame has shaped his public perception. Talking to UK Outlet The times Earlier this month he said: “At my height, I get a second look quite often. I’ve had looks all my life.”

“Now there’s an ownership of someone looking at me or walking up to me. It’s because of something positive. It’s not just my size. It’s the work I’ve done that has given him a second look,” the actor added.
