Gene Haas Advanced Manufacturing Center opened in the MCC

The MCC Gene Haas Advanced Manufacturing Center was unveiled at a ribbon opening ceremony on Tuesday.

Haas Automation Inc. is America’s leading manufacturer of CNC machine tools and is now a billion-dollar company. His foundation, the Gene Haas Foundation, works with schools and organizations to empower students with careers in manufacturing and provides funding to take advantage of these opportunities. As namesake, MCC received a $ 250,000 Haas grant.

“We are the only machining program in our region named after Mr. Gene Haas,” said Brian Warren, chairman of the MCC industrial division and coordinator for precision machine programs. “This is a great honor not only for me, but also for our college, town, and county. It speaks for the quality of our program graduates and the training opportunities our program has to qualify for the advanced manufacturing professions of today and tomorrow. “

“When you look at socio-economic communities, we look at the ones that are badly affected,” said Toni Neary, director of education at Haas Factory Outlet. “There is a huge manufacturing base in this area and we have many industrial customers who are buying our equipment and looking for workers. We like to see where communities come together. The community college system, the local community, the county all come together to make this possible, so this has been a really cohesive project and that’s what really appeals to us. “

The foundation has also awarded $ 40,000 in grants, primarily used for student grants to pay part or all of the student cost of enrolling in Precision Machining at the Gene Haas Advanced Manufacturing Center at the MCC.

“You have given us a sizeable donation that has really helped our ability to build this facility,” said MCC President Dr. Thomas Huebner. “We are now an official Gene Haas Manufacturing Training Center, the only one in the state of Mississippi. Our students receive an excellent education. If you leave here, you will get good jobs and these jobs are coveted by many and therefore we are grateful for the opportunities that the Haas Foundation offers with its generous donation. “

The ceremony on Tuesday was attended by city and county officials, members of the MCC school board, and representatives from the Haas organization.
