The summer program is underway and will last until August 8th. Explore the theme of the week through stories, crafts, games and more. Some events have limited space, call or come by to register to secure a spot. Call 336-789-5108. The schedule is:

• Monday at 6:00pm – Youth, ages 13-17. This week we are going to make a watercolor craft using tissue paper. Tissue paper is used to create a background and place an ocean silhouette on it. Pizza will be provided, please bring your own drinks.

• Tuesday at 2:00 pm – children aged 8-12; Learn about octopuses and how they can fit and slide into spaces of any size by making Octopus Slime.

• Wednesday at 10:30 am – Toddler Time for children aged 2 and 3; This week is wet and white water week, we will have a slide and paddling pool. Wear your suit, bring your sunscreen and a towel.

• Thursday at 9:30 am – Book babies for children aged birth to 2 years; This week is wet and white water week, we will have a slide and paddling pool. Wear your suit, bring your sunscreen and a towel.

• Thursday at 11am – Preschool Stories – 4-5 years; This week is wet and white water week, we will have a slide and paddling pool. Wear your suit, bring your sunscreen and a towel.

• Friday at 9:00 am – Adults 18+; Seven Wonders of the Seas – Meet some of the wonders of the seas.

• Friday at 1:00 pm – Family Movie Series, popcorn and water available. Feel free to bring your own snacks. This week we’re looking at Ponyo.

top reader. The top reader of the summer, whoever submits the most reading logs with the longest reading time, wins a Kindle. This competition is for young people between the ages of 8 and 18. Submit all reading logs by August 5th.

Surry Community College offers a fun and free English as a Second Language (ESL) course Monday through Thursday from 8:30am to 1:30pm at the Mount Airy Public Library.

Hooked – Join our crochet and knitting club every Wednesday at 3pm. Bring your own yarn and do the group project or bring your own project to work on.

Tai Chi has returned to the library. Visit us every Wednesday and Friday at 10:00 a.m. This course is suitable for people with reduced mobility.

The Community Book Club meets on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 1 p.m. In August we will read and discuss Elegy for Iris by John Bayley. This is the story of his wife Iris Murdoch who developed Alzheimer’s and how she dealt with it. We will also meet to see the film based on the book.

Pages and Petticoats Book Club – meets on the last Tuesday of each month at 6pm. In August we read Fern Michaels’ Southern Comfort.

Classic Movie Monday on July 25 at 5:30 p.m. to watch JAWS if you dare. “We’re going to need a bigger boat.” Popcorn and water will be provided.
