Artisanal textiles in Bendigo

Socks made on an antique Janine Wilson circular sock knitting machine.

The Artisans Textile Festival is one of Bendigo’s best kept event secrets. It is an annual presentation showcasing a range of textile artists and their diverse handcrafted creations.

This year’s crafts include weaving, knitting, crocheting, socks made on an antique sock knitting machine, spun cotton, greige fleece, hand-painted silk dresses and basket weaving. Handmade garments, many original crochet and knitting patterns and kits are available for sale. They will surely stimulate your own creativity.

The festival is in its ninth year and attracts people from Victoria and Interstate. Demonstrations of knitting, crocheting, basket weaving and weaving give budding craftsmen the confidence to discover a new passion.

The Artisans Textile Festival takes place in a warm, welcoming space with areas to sit, eat and relax. Lovely home made food such as soups, wraps, sandwiches, freshly baked scones, cakes, slices, tea and coffee are available in the kitchen.

Easy access to the concourse, restrooms, plenty of parking, and a $2 entrance fee add to the appeal.

Whether you enjoy your own textile passions or appreciate the quality of handcrafted designs, the Artisans Textile Festival has something for everyone.

The Artisans Textile Festival will be held July 15-17 at the North Bendigo Bowls Club 42-54 Fenton Street, Bendigo North.

Open Friday 9am-5pm, Saturday 9am-5pm and Sunday 9am-2pm. Free parking and $2 admission.
